Resolution by the Vietnam Human Rights Conference
in Santa Ana, CA, USA, November 1 & 2, 1997
Whereas the violations of human rights in Vietnam keep rising, requiring an appropriate effort to be formed to maintain liaison and coordination among human rights activists;
Whereas a number of individuals and organizations that have been fighting for the cause of human rights in Vietnam gathered for a 2-day conference in Santa Ana, California, on November 1 & 2, 1997, to discuss the formation of a Vietnam Human Rights Coalition;
Therefore, be it resolved that:
- After thorough discussions and a final unanimous vote, a Vietnam Human Rights Coalition was formed to serve as a means of maintaining liaison, exchanging information, and coordinating activities among indviduals as well as organizations in order to improve the efficiency of human rights concerns for Vietnam; and
- Worldwide organizations working for human rights in Vietnam are urged to participate in the new Vietnam Human Rights Coalition so as fighting efforts can be timely coordinated; and
- Vietnamese compatriots everywhere are invited to join and assist Viet Nam Human Rights Coalition by making violations of human rights by the Vietnamese communist government known to the world community so that eventually human righst will be truly respected in Vietnam; and
- Free countries, human rights organizations, and Vietnamese and international media are requested to fully support the fight for freedom,democracy, and human rights in Vietnam.
