NOMINATIONS INVITED FOR VIETNAM HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD 2005
Established in 2002, the Human Rights Award (HRA) provides recognition to the works of outstanding human rights activists who have made significant contributions to the cause of human rights and civil rights of the Vietnamese people, often against great odds. In addition, the HRA is also an opportunity for the Vietnamese people around the world to demonstrate their solidarity with and support for those involved in this relentless fighting for basic rights and justice.
Criteria:
1. Nominee must be an individual currently living or a non-governmental organization still active in Vietnam and has been involved in non-violent work for the promotion and protection of Vietnamese people’s human rights. 2. The nominee's work has generated positive influence inside and outside of Vietnam.
From its establishment, the HRW has been presented to eight outstanding human rights activists in Vietnam, including Most Ven. Thich Quang Do, Father Nguyen Van Ly, Dr. Pham Hong Son, Lawyer Le Chi Quang, journalist Nguyen Vu Binh, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Mr. Pham Que Duong, and Dr. Nguyen Dan Que.
The 2005 VHRA will be presented at the Westminster Community Center, Westminster, CA, USA on the 57th International Human Rights Day, December 10, 2005.
The VHRN accepts nominations from organizations and individuals in and out of Vietnam. Submissions must be written in either Vietnamese, or English, or French and received by October 31, 2005 at the following address:

The nomination must include: 1. A brief history of the nominee, and 2. Supporting documents (writing materials and/or statements of the nominee, and writings about the nominee already or to be published).
Besides, on the recommendation of several organizations and individuals, the VHRN has decided to increase the grant value from US$4,000 to US$6,000. The VNHRN appreciates contributions from generous benefactors who have been constantly concerned about the human rights condition in Vietnam.
