Vietnam Human Rights Network Calls for Nominations for The 2009 Vietnam Human Rights Award
The Vietnam Human Rights Network will be accepting nominations for the 2009 Vietnam Human Rights Award (VNHRA) from now until September 30, 2009.
VNHRA was founded in 2002 with the purpose of providing recognition and support to the works of outstanding human rights activists who have made significant contributions to the cause of human rights and civil rights of the Vietnamese people as stipulated in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and other related international covenants. It is also an opportunity for the Vietnamese people around the world to demonstrate their solidarity with and support for those involved in this relentless fighting for basic rights and justice.
Since its establishment the VNHRA has been presented to a number of human rights activists in Vietnam, including Most Ven. Thich Quang Do, Rev. Nguyen Van Ly, Mr. Nguyen Vu Binh, Mr. Le Chi Quang, Dr. Pham Hong Son, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Mr. Pham Que Duong, Dr. Nguyen Dan Que, Mr. Le Quang Liem, Father Phan Van Loi, Ven. Thich Tue Sy, Mr. Do Nam Hai, Mr. Nguyen Chinh Ket, Mr. Hoang Minh Chinh, Lawyer Nguyen Van Dai, Lawyer Le Thi Cong Nhan, Ven. Thich Thien Minh, Blogger Dieu Cay Nguyen Van Hai, and Tu Do Ngon Luan Magazine. Most of the VNHRA winners are currently in jail, under house arrested, or permanently harassed. VHRN continues to call on the world to show its concern for the Vietnamese people’s lack of freedom and human rights, especially those who have received the VNHRA.
The 2009 VNHRA will be conferred at the Commemoration of the 61st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights organized by VNHRN in December 2009. The Award winner(s) will be officially announced in early November, 2009.
