STATEMENT

ON THE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND ATROCITIES  IN TIBET

Vietnam Human Rights Network is extremely concerned about the human rights abuses and atrocities by The People’s Republic of China that have happened in Tibet and neighboring areas since March 10, 2008, the 49th anniversary of the Tibetans’ General Uprising Day. We would like to express our sincere compassion and solidarity with the Tibetan people, especially with victims and their families of these repressive atrocities.

Protesters from Tibet and neighboring provinces have defied China’s bloody suppression that has resulted in over one hundred victims killed and a lot more wounded and imprisoned. The Dalai Lama, the Tibetans’ spiritual leader and head of Tibet’s government in exile, has called for an international investigation of China’s recent serious human rights violations against innocent Tibetans.

We, the Vietnam Human Rights Network, condemn all human rights violations and demand that China immediately stop its bloodshedding actions against Tibetan people and respect all basic freedoms as set forth in the United Nations’Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  We also urge the Beijing Government to seriously negotiate with The Dalai Lama and Tibet’s government in exile to peacefully resolve its repressive occupation of Tibet.

California, March 20, 2008
