Vietnam Human Rights Network Invites Nomination of Candidates and Support for the 2006 Vietnam Human Rights Award
Westminster, CA, USA. - The Vietnam Human Rights Network Coordinating Committee today made public the regulations and procedures for the nomination of 2006 Vietnam Human Rights Award's candidates (VNHRA) as well as its call for support for this event.
According to Mr. Le Minh Nguyen, Chairman of the Coordinating Committee, VNHRA provides recognition and support to the works of outstanding human rights activists who have made significant contributions to the cause of human rights and civil rights of the Vietnamese people as stipulated in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and other related international covenants. It is also an opportunity for the Vietnamese people around the world to demonstrate their solidarity with and support for those involved in this relentless fighting for basic rights and justice. The 2006 VNHRA will be presented on this year’s International Human Rights Day, December 10, 2006. The winners will be officially announced on November 15, 2006 after they will have been notified. The VNHRN needs generous financial donation and political support to make this event a success.

General criteria and procedures:
- Nominee must be an individual currently living or a non-governmental organization still active in Vietnam and has been involved in non-violent work for the promotion and protection of Vietnamese people’s human rights. - The nominee's work has generated positive influence inside and outside of Vietnam.
Nomination must include: - A brief history of the nominee, and - Supporting documents (writing materials and/or statements of the nominee, and writings about the nominee already or to be published). - Nomination must be written in either Vietnamese, or English, or French and received by October 31, 2006 at the following address: Vietnam Human Rights Network 14550 Magnolia St., Suite 203 Westminster, CA 92683 - U.S.A. Since its establishment in 2002, the VNHRA has been presented to a number of human rights activists in Vietnam, including Most Venerable Thich Quang Do, Father Nguyen Van Ly, Journalist Nguyen Vu Binh, Lawyer Le Chi Quang, Doctor Pham Hong Son, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Ex-Colonel Pham Que Duong, Doctor Nguyen Dan Que, Rev. Le Quang Liem, Father Phan Van Loi, and Venerable Thich Tue Sy. MM. Pham Hong Son and Nguyen Vu Binh are still in jail; while the others, though not imprisoned, have been regularly harassed. VHRN continues to call on the world to show its concern for the Vietnamese people’s lack of freedom and human rights, especially those who have received the VNHRA.
