Amnesty International Submitted Vietnam’s Human Rights Record to UN Universal Periodic Review
3 November 2008 As one of the largest NGOs affiliated to the UN, Amnesty International has submitted Vietnam’s human rights record to UN Universal Periodic Review that will be held on May 08, 2009. The UN Human Rights Council is mandated to review the member states’ performance in human rights practices based on objective and reliable information. In its submission, Amnesty International raises concerns over the protection of human rights in national legislation, the death penalty, the restriction on the rights to freedom of expression and assembly, and persecution of religious and ethnic groupings in Vietnam. Amnesty International also makes a number of recommendations for action by the government to address the areas of concern. Click here to read the full text of Amnesty International’s report.
